Our Story

Chorizo Selecto is a story of tradition, perseverance, and family. It began in Matehuala, San Luis Potosí, Mexico, where Sostenes Garcia Villanueva, the eldest son in a large family, learned the craft of butchery from his father, Sostenes Garcia Cruz. Working side by side in the family butcher shop and helping on the ranch, he developed a deep understanding of the trade and eventually mastered the art of chorizo-making—sourcing ingredients from farmers in the mountains of Real de Catorce and perfecting his own recipe over time.

Years later, Sostenes moved to the United States, settling in Holland, Michigan, where he reunited with his wife, who shares roots in the same hometown. Together, they worked tirelessly in farm fields, factories, and local businesses—including a Sbarro’s in the Westshore Mall—building a new life from the ground up.

After a brief venture operating a tortilla factory in Atlanta, Georgia, the family returned to Holland, where Sostenes opened a Mexican grocery store with a butcher shop. There, he served his community with traditional foods like carnitas on Saturdays, barbacoa on Sundays, tamales on weekends, and his signature chorizo. As demand for his chorizo grew, he made the decision to close the grocery store and focus entirely on production.

Today, Chorizo Selecto operates as a dedicated chorizo producer, supplying local restaurants and Latin grocery stores with the same authentic flavor Sostenes perfected over decades. The business continues to grow, now with the next generation helping expand its reach while honoring the family’s roots and tradition.
